Ajiran Dispute: Group Raises Alarm Over Arrest of Two Social Media Users

The Centre for Citizens Right Protection has raised concerns over the reported arrest of two individuals, Aminat Kazeem and Adisa Femi Adebanji, in connection with social media discussions surrounding the alleged murder case involving Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi.

The group called on the relevant authorities to respect the rights of the detainees and ensure that due process was followed in handling the matter.

In a statement signed by its Convener, Abe Emmanuel Kolawole, and Secretary, Samuel Isijola, the organisation alleged that the arrests were connected to online commentary about the Ajiran dispute and the circumstances surrounding Akanbi’s arrest.

It claimed that Kazeem and Adebanji were arrested on the night of October 12, 2026, over allegations of cyberbullying but had yet to be granted access to their lawyers and family members or brought before a court.

The organisation expressed concern over the development and urged the authorities to clarify the circumstances of the arrests and ensure that the detainees’ legal rights were protected.

The alleged murder case has generated considerable debate on social media since Akanbi’s arrest, with different groups expressing divergent views about the case.

According to the organisation, the debate intensified following comments and materials shared by social media activist Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), concerning the circumstances surrounding the case.

The group also raised concerns about allegations involving Aare Bashir Fakorede, Prince Babajide Akinloye and Assistant Inspector-General of Police Jimoh Moshood. However, the allegations have not been independently established.

It accused the authorities of allowing the dispute to spill into the handling of social media commentary and called for impartiality in dealing with individuals expressing their views on the matter.

The organisation further cautioned against publicly labelling Akanbi a murderer before the conclusion of his trial, stressing that the determination of criminal responsibility rests with a competent court.

It urged the relevant authorities to ensure that the case and the reported arrests were handled in accordance with the law, adding that the rights of all parties should be protected.

The group maintained that disputes surrounding the Ajiran community should be addressed through lawful processes rather than actions that could heighten tensions among the parties involved.
