LAGOS — Members of the Ajiran Community in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, calling for the immediate release of a Lexus 600 SUV belonging to Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi, as well as Certified True Copies of the investigation report and case file.
The protesters said they were at the command to meet the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge, Dayo Akinbisehin, over what they described as the unjust withholding of their kinsman’s vehicle and official documents after investigations had been concluded.
According to the protesters, counsel to Mr. Akanbi, Adedotun Ajulo, Esq., had informed them that the police were refusing to release the Lexus 600 despite the fact that the vehicle was not connected to the allegation against Akanbi.
They also expressed dissatisfaction that the CTC of the investigation report and the case file had not been released. The community alleged that Mr. Akinbisehin appeared to be working with “interested parties” to suppress evidence against Akanbi.
“Mr. Akanbi is constitutionally entitled to the CTC of the case file to enable him prepare for his defence,” one of the protesters said.
During the protest, the community presented a letter to the DC giving him a 7-day ultimatum to release the vehicle and the requested documents.
Officers of the command addressed the protesters and assured them that their demands would be looked into and met.
The protest ended peacefully with no breakdown of law and order.
