ABEOKUTA — The House of Representatives candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Toyin Amuzu, has described the recent wave of defections from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP as a clear indication that the opposition party is gaining momentum and positioning itself strongly for victory in the 2027 general elections.

Amuzu made this known while reacting to the decision of several APC members to join the PDP, describing the development as a positive sign of growing public confidence in the party's vision and leadership.

According to him, the increasing number of politicians and supporters aligning with the PDP demonstrates that Nigerians, particularly residents of Ogun State, are eager for a new direction and better governance.

"The recent defections into the Peoples Democratic Party are a strong indication that our party is moving forward. It shows that people are beginning to identify with our ideals and are ready to work with us to build a better future for Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole," Amuzu stated.

The PDP chieftain also extended his congratulations to the party's Ogun Central Senatorial candidate, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, and the deputy governorship flagbearer, Alhaja Dr. Yemi Kolapo-Showunmi, for what he described as their unwavering commitment to the party and its mission.

He commended both leaders for their dedication, resilience and contributions towards strengthening the PDP's presence across the state, expressing confidence that their efforts would contribute significantly to the party's electoral success.

Amuzu further urged party members and supporters to remain united and focused on the task ahead, stressing that collective efforts would be required to achieve the desired political transformation in the state.

Addressing the electorate, he called on eligible voters across Ogun State to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in the democratic process.

He emphasized that the power to determine the future of the state and the nation rests with the people, urging citizens not only to register and collect their PVCs but also to safeguard their votes during future elections.

"I appeal to the good people of Ogun State to ensure they obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and prepare to participate fully in the forthcoming elections. Every vote matters, and citizens must be ready to protect their votes to ensure that their voices are heard," he said.

The PDP stalwart expressed optimism that the party would continue to attract more supporters and strengthen its structures ahead of the 2027 elections, maintaining that the growing support base reflects widespread desire for responsive leadership and improved governance.

Political observers believe that the recent movement of politicians across party lines may reshape the political landscape in Ogun State as parties begin strategic preparations for the next electoral cycle.

As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of 2027, stakeholders are expected to intensify grassroots mobilization efforts, with voter education and participation likely to play crucial roles in determining the outcome of future elections.
