The Federal Commissioner representing Ogun State at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Akeem Adetayo Amosun, has extended warm congratulations to Muslims and Christians on the simultaneous commencement of the 2026 Ramadan fast and the Christian Lenten season, both beginning on February 18.
In a goodwill message issued on Tuesday, Amosun described the convergence of the two sacred observances as a “unique spiritual moment” that calls for deeper reflection, unity and a renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence across religious lines.
He urged members of the Muslim community to embrace the core teachings of Ramadan—self-discipline, charity, and compassion—while encouraging Christians to observe Lent with humility, prayer and acts of kindness. According to him, both seasons present an opportunity for adherents of the two major faiths to strengthen moral values and contribute positively to society.
Amosun called on the Muslim Ummah to imbibe the exemplary virtues demonstrated by Prophet Muhammad, particularly his teachings on love, patience and generosity. He also encouraged Christians to emulate the selflessness and compassion of Jesus Christ as they journey through the 40-day Lenten period.
“The simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent is a reminder that, despite differences in faith traditions, we share common values of sacrifice, devotion, and service to humanity,” he said. “This period should inspire us to promote peace, extend support to the less privileged, and foster unity within our communities.”
The commissioner further appealed to Nigerians to use the spiritual seasons as a time to pray for national peace, economic stability and progress, noting that collective prayers and acts of goodwill can help strengthen national cohesion.
Religious leaders and faithful across the country are expected to mark the beginning of both Ramadan and Lent with special prayers, fasting, and charitable activities. Observers say the rare overlap of the two seasons offers an opportunity for interfaith dialogue and collaboration in community service initiatives.
Amosun concluded his message by wishing Muslims and Christians a spiritually fulfilling period of fasting and reflection, expressing hope that the lessons learned during Ramadan and Lent would translate into lasting harmony and development across the nation.
