Olori Omoba Akile Ijebu- KWAM!
Alhaji wasiu Ayinde marshall, omo ojusagbola, omo afidipotemole, omo alagemo merindilogun, your life is evidence of the mercies of God in all ramifications.
Your contribution to the genre of fuji music and how you took a type of music which before had limited acceptability within a section of the Yoruba public into a cross-national and pan-global frenzy that all now enjoy and identify with is remarkable and legendary.
Your social impact as a result of how you connect and inspire not just younger artists but a culture that is now uniquely fuji, that has broken all social barriers makes you a worthy icon in a class of your own.
I began to pay attention to your status not just as a musician but as a custodian of our tradition when you became the Mayegun of Yorubaland, a title bestode on you by the late Alafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi 11.
This status is now beyond reasonable doubt confirmed by your elevation to the title of Olori Omoba of Ijebu Kingdom by The Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu Kingdom, I have in the last couple of weeks followed closely and taken time to research the title, and how the lot fell upon you given the last occupant Otunba Olasubomi Balogun.
I must say it was a great eye opener to become aware of the historical linage of the Ojusagbola and the line of the Fidibote, which is undisputedly a first line Royal bloodline of Ijebu Kingdom, indeed wisdom is with the elders in choosing you to carry this responsibility.
I wish you well, and I pray for your success in this added new role. I believe that the best of your God-given talents will add significant colour and panache to the Ijebu traditional council.
Aje gbo, Aje Tor. Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde omo Fidipote omo Moyegeso, Olori Omoba Akile Ijebu, and to my sister Yeye Emmanuella ‘Ropo, ara ake majo, omo Itesi oroki, omo olukojiya, wa se ise ilu pepe o. Congratulations to you both.
Otunba Segun Showunmi
